The excavations at Petriplatz between 2007 and 2009 brought to light archaeological remains from the 12th century up to the recent past. They shed light on the historic heart of Cölln and make tangible a part of the town that was lost for good with the demolition of the Petrikirche (St Peterâs Church) in 1964. The remains uncovered include, among others the skeletons of the townâs earliest inhabitants, the remains of cellars and houses from the 13th century, foundation walls of the church and the Latin school of Cölln as well as cellars of a 20th-century department store. Today, the site is home to the Hotel Capri by Fraser, which opened in 2017, alongside the PETRI Berlin and the construction site for the House of One. The latter being a multireligious centre of Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities aimed at open dialogue and peaceful existence. But what was there before?
